Roger Black

Having represented Great Britain for 14 years at the highest level in athletics, Roger Black won 15 major championship medals, including European, Commonwealth and World Championships. His greatest achievements were winning the Olympic 400 metres silver medal in 1996, and being part of the gold-medal winning 4x400m relay team at the 1991 World Championships.

He was awarded an MBE in 1992 for his services to sport and is now a TV presenter, high-performance motivational speaker, and business owner. He is one of those unique people who has achieved greatness both as an individual and as part of a team and so understands the dynamics of becoming a champion.

Steve Backley

Steve Backley established himself as one of the all-time greats of his sport (Javelin), having been ranked in the world’s top ten every year between 1989 and 2002. He is the only British track and field competitor to win medals at three Olympic Games and broke the World Record three times.

Steve was awarded an OBE in 2002 for his sporting achievements. Since retiring, he has become a TV personality, regular athletics commentator, and writer. He has also established himself as one of the circuit’s most respected speakers. He specialises in success, self-belief, dealing with failure, high performance, thriving, overcoming adversity, and mental well-being.

Roger Black and Steve Backley – High-Performance Training

Together, Roger and Steve run the training company BackleyBlack. These offering programmes draw from their own experiences and high-performance mindsets in sports and turn them into practical ways of improving businesses. They capture the essence of competing at the highest level, how athletes behave, and the values surrounding this effective behaviour. Roger and Steve aim to translate this into an audience’s working and private life, helping them build their own ‘Olympic high performance’.
